Rendering brings a lot of questions, so we’ve put together straight answers to the ones we get asked most, covering costs, the installation process, choosing the right system, and what to expect once the work’s done.

Costs & Quotes
Cost depends on the size of your property, the render system you choose, access, and the condition of your existing walls. Because every property’s different, we don’t work from a fixed price list. We typically quote after a site visit so you get an accurate figure, not a guess.
No, scaffolding is quoted separately where it’s needed for access. We’ll give you an estimated cost for this when writing your rendering quote, then provide you with the exact price once we’ve spoken with the scaffolder, so there are no surprises once work starts.
The main factors are the size and shape of the property, the render system used, how easy the property is to access, and the condition of the walls underneath. Removing old render, repairing damage, or adding insulation will also affect the overall price.
Yes, we ask for a deposit to secure your job in the schedule. We’ll confirm the exact amount and payment terms when we provide your quote.
Yes. Every quote starts with a free, no-obligation site visit so we can assess your property properly before giving you a price. If it’s possible, we can give you a quote via WhatsApp based on images, though we often prefer to come to your property to give you the most accurate price.
Installation
Most residential projects take between one and two weeks, depending on the size of the property, the system being used, and the weather. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe as part of your quote.
No, you can stay in your home throughout. Rendering is an external job, so it shouldn’t affect your day-to-day life inside the property.
We handle all the preparation, including removing old or damaged render where needed, repairing the substrate, and fitting insulation boards or mesh if the system requires it. On your side, it’s worth moving anything valuable away from external walls and letting us know about access, like water, gates or shared driveways.
We keep a close eye on the forecast and won’t apply render in conditions that would affect how it cures. If rain interrupts a job partway through, we’ll pause and pick back up once conditions are right.
Yes, temperature, rain and humidity all affect how render cures. That’s why we monitor conditions closely and don’t just work to a fixed schedule regardless of the weather. It’s part of why timelines can shift slightly during winter or unsettled weather.
Some noise and activity outside the property, and scaffolding up for the duration of the job, but nothing that should stop you using your home as normal. We keep the site tidy and access clear throughout.
Render Systems
It depends on your property’s construction, condition, budget and the finish you’re after. There’s no single “best” system, which is why we always start with a site visit before recommending anything.
Silicone render is flexible, low-maintenance and self-cleaning, making it a popular choice for most properties. Monocouche is a coloured through-body render, typically more cost-effective, though slightly less flexible and self-cleaning than silicone. We’ll talk you through which suits your property and budget.
Yes. Age isn’t the deciding factor, the construction and condition of the walls are. We render period properties regularly, and a proper survey tells us exactly what the building needs.
Bare brick, yes, provided the surface is sound and suitable as a base. Existing pebble dash or render is a different matter, as we don’t patch or repair over old surfaces. If it’s not suitable to render over, we’ll remove it completely before starting fresh.
Yes. External Wall Insulation (EWI) can be installed as part of your render project, improving both the look and the thermal performance of your home in one job.
Render Maintenance & Lifespan
A high-quality system, properly installed, should last decades. The exact lifespan depends on the product used, the quality of the installation, and how well it’s maintained.
No, most modern render systems are through-coloured, so the colour runs through the material rather than sitting on top as a paint layer. This means no repainting is needed to keep the colour looking fresh.
An occasional wash down with water is usually enough. Silicone render is largely self-cleaning, but keeping gutters clear and checking the surface now and then will help keep it looking its best for longer.
We don’t carry out patch repairs, we remove and reapply instead. This gives a proper, lasting finish rather than a visible patch that can fail or weather differently to the render around it. We’ll assess the damage and advise honestly on what the job involves.
Modern render systems are far more flexible than old sand and cement render and are designed to handle normal building movement. With proper preparation and reinforcement mesh where needed, the risk of cracking is low. However, no external finish is completely immune to genuine structural movement.
